2 Japanese films won Academy Awards.
"Departures" (おくりびと, Okuribito) got the Best Foreign Language Film.
"La Maison en Petits Cubes" (つみきのいえ, Tsumiki no Ie) got the Best Animated Short Film.
Anime has been awarded for both best animated feature film and best animated short film.
"Spirited Away", which was directed by Hayao Miyazaki, was given Oscar in 2005.
